Sterling Stirling voted Australian Super 12 player of the year

Brumbies centre Stirling Mortlock has been voted Australian Super 12 rugby player of the year.

Mortlock overcame a mid-season ankle injury to finish with 15 points and edge out Waratah David Lyons (13) and the Reds' Ben Tune (12) and Chris Latham (10).

Mortlock, who missed last year's test season because of a shoulder injury, racked up 121 points on the field.

Brumbies winger Graeme Bond picked up the award for try of the year for his effort against the Blues.

Points were awarded by the New Zealand and South African referees who controlled all fixtures involving Australian teams during the three-month series.
