Police have dropped charges against a rugby star accused of a domestic incident involving a knife.
A judge in Wellington District Court granted the Super 14 player permanent name suppression.
Prosecuting sergeant Colin McGillivray said there was not sufficient evidence to proceed with the charge, revealed in last week's Herald on Sunday.
"Every file that comes through prosecutions has to be reviewed to see if we will be proceeding with the charges," he said.
"It is our belief that there was insufficient admissible evidence that would lead to a conviction as charged, and it was on that basis that the matter was not proceeded with."
