Hurricanes players avoid further punishment from SANZAAR with warnings issued

Hurricanes duo Julian Savea and Gareth Evans have avoided further embarrassment following their side's loss to the Brumbies last night, having been issued warnings from SANZAAR.

Savea was slapped on the wrist for an incident in the 77th minute after he lifted Brumbies No.8 Isi Naisarani past the horizontal when attempting to clear a ruck.

Evans was warned for an incident that occurred less than 10 minutes earlier, also on Naisarani in a ruck.

When attempting to clear out the Naisarani, Evans made contact around the neck and head and maintained contact in an attempt to remove him.

The Hurricanes went on to lose their third match on the trot, going down 24-12 in Canberra.

The SANZAAR citing commissioner can issue warnings to players for foul play incidents that are close to but don't meet the red card threshold.

In both cases, the citing commissioner deemed that a warning was appropriate.
