-The Highlanders kicked off their campaign with a 35-21 win over the Tana Umaga-coached Moana Pasifika in Dunedin.

-The home side jumped ahead through Jacob Ratumaitavuki-Kneepkens but the visitors hit back to take an 18-14 lead to halftime.

-The Highlanders scored three second-half tries with Sam Gilbert sealing victory in the 72nd minute.
