The most memorable things in sport aren't necessarily ethical. Think Maradona's Hand of God goal; the All Blacks' lineout dive against Wales; and Aussie cricket's underarm. Hysteria followed, marks in history made.

The most memorable sports bits can also involve failure: track stumbles by the American Mary Decker and Kiwi Sylvia Potts are classic cases.

They don't even need to be about winning. The mind's backward looking eye sometimes

thinks that John Walker won that magnificent 1500m race in Christchurch, 1974, until the name Filbert Bayi pops up.

And the best moments in a footy game don't have to be the ones that create tries or even work. Which brings us to the clash between the Blues and Hurricanes.

What a pass from the Hurricanes' lock James Broadhurst, to create a non-try for Dane Coles. It's worth finding a replay if you missed it. Sonny Bill Williams, the best offloader in modern day football, would have been immensely proud of that pass from nowhere.

Wrapped up in a tackle Broadhurst scooped the ball around the back of his jailer, to the flying Coles. The All Black hooker made a spectacular dive for the corner. The video ref rightly ruled it out, but only just. What a fabulous pass, especially from a tight forward. Rugby needs more of that.

As for the rest...the Hurricanes were more organised and desperate. Some of the Blues lack conviction. The team lacks direction to make use of its firepower. John Kirwan's mob are dog tucker again. Beyond that, the Broadhurst moment stood out for this punter. Brilliant.
