SOUTH AFRICA 46 GEORGIA 19
SYDNEY - A second-string South Africa side laboured to an error-ridden 46-19 victory over a spirited Georgia team in pool C at the World Cup this morning.
The Springboks scored seven tries, but five came through forwards and a litany of handling errors and poor decision-making in
the backline left them struggling for dominance against the ebullient eastern Europeans.
Only loose forward Danie Roussow, who grabbed two tries, and debutant first five-eighths Derick Hougaard, who got a try and kicked four conversions and a penalty, did anything for their prospects of stepping up to the first-choice South Africa team.
Georgia grabbed a thoroughly deserved first try of the tournament through hooker David Dadunashvili after a catch-and-drive from a lineout early in the second half.
South Africa 46: Tries: Danie Rossouw (2), Derick Hougaard, Joe van Niekerk, Jaque Fourie, Bakkies Botha, Schalk Burger; Conversions: Hougaard (4); Penalty: Hougaard
Georgia 19: Try: David Dadunashvili; Conversion: Paliko Jimsheladze; Penalties: Jimsheladze (3), Merab Kvirikashvili.
