Despite being a fan favourite due to his out and out speed and silky skills, Gear has struggled to gain a regular spot in the All Blacks since making his debut against Australia in Hong Kong three years ago.
The Hurricanes winger seems to have no trouble finding the try-line
though having crossed over five times in his first six test matches. He also won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games with the New Zealand sevens team.
With the likes of Sitiveni Sivivatu and Mils Muliaina heading offshore at the end of the season, Gear may find it easier to break into the starting XV in the future.
