SYDNEY - Fiji wing Rupeni Caucaunibuca has been cited for foul play and ordered to appear before a World Cup judiciary panel tomorrow.
Caucaunibuca was sin-binned by Irish referee Alain Rolland for punching France flanker Oliver Magne in a Pool B match in Brisbane yesterday.
The Fijian management hoped that would bethe end of the matter but were told today Caucaunibuca had been cited by an independent commissioner, New Zealand's Michael O'Leary, who had studied tapes of the incident.
Under the tournament's disciplinary code, a player faces a ban of between one and 12 weeks for striking an opponent, with three weeks the normal penalty.
Caucaunibuca, 23, is one of the most exciting wingers in the game and any suspension would seriously undermine Fiji's chances of advancing to the quarter-finals.
The Auckland player scored a sensational solo try against the French but the 61-18 loss left the Pacific Islanders needing to win their three remaining pool games.
Tournament officials said Caucaunibuca would face judiciary officer Terry Willis, a Sydney solicitor, on Monday
