WOLLONGONG - Canada winger Sean Fauth scored a fine try to help Canada beat Tonga 24-7 in a hard-fought World Cup pool D match tonight.
The Canadians led 9-7 at halftime through three penalties by first five-eighths Bob Ross and Fauth's try soon after the interval gave them
a decisive lead.
Ross landed another penalty and replacement Aaron Abrams sealed an emphatic victory with a late try following a powerful forward drive.
Tonga captain Inoke Afeaki crashed over for the only try of the first half but his team failed to take advantage of greater possession, committing a series of handling errors as they slumped to their fourth straight defeat of the tournament.
Canada finished fourth in the group, behind New Zealand, Wales and Italy.
