A British firm that sold World Cup trips to more than 100 people is being investigated for fraud.
Officers fear the company - The Rugby World Cup 2003 (UK) Ltd - has been selling false tickets, flights and accommodation for the event.
More than 100 rugby fans have paid as much as $28,665 for trips but the company, based in Wokingham, Berkshire, has allegedly failed to provide any match or air tickets to customers.
The BBC reported that the company had been served with a winding-up order.
The company, which advertised cup packages in national newspapers and magazines, claimed to be working in conjunction with the International Rugby Board.
Thames Valley Police said the board had never heard of the firm and it was not licensed to sell tickets.
