Cory Jane burst on to the scene in early 2007, scoring three tries in his first five matches playing for the Hurricanes, earning him the nickname the Heretaunga hare.

By 2008, he made the All Blacks' end-of-year tour after a strong provincial season. His test debut came against Australia in Hong Kong.

Jane had his best season in the black jersey in 2009, playing between fullback and wing with a couple of assured performances seeing him come of age. But his last couple of seasons have been a bit more up and down.

A disappointing end-of-year tour in 2010 saw Jane start this season low on confidence and, with so much at stake, he began listening to critics, arguing with referees and playing like a man distracted.

Injury to key rivals handed Jane a lifeline, with the Wellington wing selected for the Tri-Nations as injury cover. He responded well, impressing in the first test against the Boks.

Off the pitch, Jane is something of a social media maestro with a steady stream of musings flowing out to fans in 140 characters or less. A self-confessed Twitter addict, Jane's online ramblings have prompted NZRU management to impose a tweeting ban during the Cup.

In one of his last posts before the cone of silence descended on the All Blacks, Jane thanked his fans for their support.

"Thanks for all the love tweepz ... I've gone from rock bottom this year to a massive high ... #StillWannaGoHigherTho ..."
