South Africa and England drew 14-14 on Saturday in the final Test of a three-match series won 2-0 by the Springboks.
Recalled halfback Danny Care darted in for England's sole try in the 11th minute to give the tourists an early lead and a promising start to the third Test
at a wet Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
But England lost five-eighth Toby Flood to injury early and South Africa ground their way back, with winger JP Pietersen's second-half score putting the Boks narrowly ahead.
Replacement Owen Farrell levelled with a late penalty and he and opposite number Morne Steyn both missed late field goal attempts.
