Black Ferns sevens star Kayla McAlister will miss the Commonwealth games in April.
Coach Allan Bunting has confirmed the 2013 World Sevens Player of the Year has made herself unavailable for the Gold Coast to spend time with her family.
"For now she's made herself unavailable. It's up to herif she wants to come back," Bunting told Radiosport.
"She's with her partner who's flown away on a contract and she's gone away and wants to be a mum for a bit.
"The door's open for Kayla ... but she hasn't actually had a chance to be a mum yet so she's gonna go do that and we'll just see what happens after that."
McAlister came back from having her baby to play for New Zealand at the season opening World Series tournament in Dubai last year, her first tournament since the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Ferns star is married to former Blues centre Pita Ahki who plays for Irish club Connacht.
