The Black Ferns Sevens have won the World Series title again, after making it to the semi-finals of the New York tournament.
No other team can catch them in the overall standings after they reached the semis, which meant the Black Ferns have defended their regular season title.
Three winsin Pool A have set the team up with a match against the USA to make the final and attempt to win the American Sevens title for the third straight year.
Australia, currently second in the overall standings, and seventh-placed Fiji are in the other semi.
“Winning the series has definitely been a goal of ours this season,” Black Ferns Sevens captain Risi Pouri-Lane said.
Despite a much-changed side, the Black Ferns were able to put in a 46-5 win over Great Britain, who have lost 26 straight games, and easily beat Fiji and France in their other pool games.
The women’s team have won the tournaments in Dubai, Singapore, Perth and Vancouver this year, finishing second in the Cape Town tournament.

The All Blacks Sevens have not been as successful this season, currently sitting third in the overall men’s standings and only winning the season-opening tournament in Dubai.
The men’s team finished seventh in the Vancouver tournament last weekend and are set to take on Great Britain in the fifth-place semi-final in New York.
The All Blacks Sevens had issues before setting off to North America after head coach Tomasi Cama was unable to travel with the team because his visa application had not been processed in time.
