Critically ill Chiefs assistant rugby coach Andrew Strawbridge has woken from his coma.
However, he remains in a serious but stable condition in Waikato Hospital's intensive care unit.
Strawbridge has been talking to medical staff and to his wife, Laura, and sister, Susan.
He has asked Laura for a textmessage to be sent to Dr Dave Galler in Samoa, thanking him and his team for saving him and helping him get home alive.
The Manu Somoan team, who are currently in San Jose on tour, have sent a special video for Strawbridge which has been received with great joy by the family and will be shown to him this afternoon.
Nearly $20,000 has been for the givealittle appeal to provide medical equipment for the Moto'otua National Hospital Intensive Care Unit that was started by the Strawbridge family on Monday.
