Andrew Strawbridge heads home from hospital

After almost three weeks in hospital Chiefs Assistant Coach Andrew Strawbridge has been discharged from hospital.

He'd fallen critically ill with an eye infection, while in Samoa for the Samoa vs All Blacks Test match earlier in the month.

Mr Strawbridge says it has been a traumatic journey and he is realistic that it will take a while for him to fully recover.

He also thanks all those involved in his recovery so far.

"Especially my lovely wife and sister who have been simply amazing during this ordeal."

The 50-year-old will remain under the care of multiple specialists as he continues to recover.

Mr Strawbridge's wife, Laura Strawbridge says the family would need to take time to "heal from this frightening journey".

"It will be a while before he is ready for visitors but we are delighted that Andrew has made such big improvements that he is allowed home."

She also expressed her gratitude to the community for their support.

Over $29,000 has generously been donated for the Strawbridge Givealittle appeal to provide medical equipment for the Moto'otua National Hospital Intensive Care Unit where Mr Strawbridge was first admitted.
