The All Blacks wrapped up their so-so 2000 season with a 56-19 win over Italy at the Luigi Ferrari Stadium in Genoa this morning (NZ time).
Todd Blackadder's team were ahead 25-9 at half-time and ran in eight tries to the two from Italy (both from drives close to
the All Blacks' line).
The visitors were always going to win, but it was not quite the crushing victory they wanted. The Italians were down to 14 players twice after yellow-card incidents, gave away little in the tight and scored the last try.
Carlos Spencer had a classy game, showed off his knee kick, and picked up 21 points from a try, five conversions and two penalty goals.
The All Blacks' other points came from tries to Bruce Reihana (2), Ron Cribb (2), Filo Tiatia, Doug Howlett and Justin Marshall.
Italy's tries were scored by Andrea lo Chicero and substitute Stefano Saviozzi. Ramiro Pez kicked two penalty goals.
Although the game was classed as a Test, the New Zealand TAB did not offer head-to-head betting. The All Blacks' winning margin of 31 to 40 points paid $6.
