Loose forward Matt Todd for rejected overseason offers and re-signed with New Zealand Rugby and the Crusaders to the end of the 2018 season.

The 28-year-old, who has played eight tests for the All Blacks, is only a few games off reaching his 100th cap for the Crusaders.

He said there had been interest from overseas clubs but the decision to stay and play his rugby in Christchurch for 2018 was relatively straightforward in the end.

"There were options to go overseason, but I'm enjoying footy in New Zealand and happy to stay for another season," he said.

"At this stage in my career I thought one year was the best decision for me and my family at this time. When it comes back up I'll go through the process again."

Todd, who will return from a recent calf strain to play the Force on Friday, said his position in the All Blacks' pecking order would factor into his thinking in 2018.

"There are a number of factors and that is one you weigh in there."

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen said he was pleased with Todd's re-signing, saying the flanker was the ultimate team man.

"He puts the team first, works incredibly hard at his game, deserves and appreciates every chance he gets and plays outstandingly well when he gets those opportunities," Hansen said.
