Zac Guildford has been named in the Waikato sevens side for this weekend's northern regional men's tournament in Cambridge.

The former All Blacks winger is in the Mooloos' 12-strong squad, coached by fellow past New Zealand sevens rep Roger Randle.

It's the latest step for Guildford in his quest to resurrect his rugby career.

Guildford played for Wairarapa Bush in the Heartland Championship this year after being let go by the Waratahs in Super Rugby.

Zac Guildford has had success in sevens, winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Waikato are the defending men's national sevens champions and will face North Harbour, Northland and Bay of Plenty in pool play in Cambridge tomorrow.
