Plenty of advice is coming for new Springbok coach Allister Coetzee who needs to appoint a fresh captain as South Africa host a three test series against Ireland in June.
Jean de Villiers led the Boks 34 times before a fractured jaw ended his career at the last World Cup,his replacement Fourie du Preez retired after the tournament and deputy Schalk Burger is playing in Europe.
The Boks, like the All Blacks in the post Richie McCaw era, need a new face to go with the (c ) in the match programmes.
Rangy Lions No 8 Warren Whiteley gets plenty of support for his leadership from former Boks however they are not sure he will be an automatic selection in his position. He will have competition for both roles from Duane Vermeulen if Coetzee decides to invest further in those playing offshore.
Many feel Coetzee should take a conservative approach in the early stages of his test coaching career and pick an experienced forward.
Their advice is to pick hooker Adriaan Strauss to step up to the captaincy as he has done with the Bulls this season. He has played more than 50 tests as he battled John Smit and Bismarck du Plessis for work since his 2008 international debut.
