Rugby: Van der Westhuizen to captain Boks

South Africa's most capped player, Joost van der Westhuizen, has been recalled to the captaincy for the first test against Scotland next month.

Coach Rudolf Straeuli has named a 24-man squad including five new caps. Halfback Van der Westhuizen, who is also his country's leading try scorer, takes over the role from the injured Corne Krige.

The 32-year-old last played for the Springboks against the USA at the end of 2001 and last captained the team at the 1999 World Cup.

The new caps are centre Gcobani Bobo, tighthead prop Richard Bands, hooker Hanyane Shimange and flanks Wickus van Heerden and Jaun Smith.
