Rugby: Streakers beware of World Cup

Streakers aiming to interrupt rugby World Cup matches in New South Wales face a $6000 fine and risk a life ban from stadiums under proposed laws being considered by the state Parliament.

Police Minister John Watkins said the aim was to prevent a repeat of a streaking incident at a Bledisloe Cup match last August.

In the incident two streakers sporting Vodafone logos ran on to Telstra Stadium while All Blacks goalkicker Andrew Mehrtens was lining up a penalty attempt.

"The rugby World Cup will be the biggest sporting event in the world this year and we don't want a repeat of ugly incidents like the Bledisloe Cup prank," said Watkins.
