Rugby: Macqueen shuns offer

Former Australian rugby coach Rod Macqueen has rejected an offer from English club Saracens to take over from New Zealander Wayne Shelford.

Saracens sacked former All Black captain Shelford as coach last month and have since been knocked back by Australians Laurie Fisher and Tim Lane.

The London club then hoped to lure Macqueen out of retirement.

"I have five day jobs already and the last thing I need is another one," Macqueen said. "I am not getting back into rugby and I am not going to Saracens."

Macqueen retired from coaching in 2001 after leading the Wallabies to unprecedented success, including World Cup, Bledisloe Cup and Tri-Nations titles, and a series triumph over the Lions.
