Warriors American bidder wants to base a Super Rugby franchise in Hawaii

The Tongan-American NFL consortium headed by American politician Richard Fale.

The Hawaiian businessman leading the charge to own the Warriors has also revealed plans to operate a Super Rugby team out of America.

Richard Fale, who is leading the consortium, uncovered the groups original plans to own a rugby team based in Hawaii.

Fale told the Sunday Star Times that it would be a Pacific Island based franchise that would operate out of the state.

The consortium directed their attention away from rugby to focus on the sale of Eric Watson's Warriors.

Watson is yet to strike a deal with the consortium, with Fale believing they are close to putting pen to paper.

He said that if the group did end up owning the Warriors, they'd still have enough resources to run a Super Rugby team.

"We're in a position where we could make both happen," Fale told the Sunday Star Times.

"Sanzaar was talking about expansion, they were adding Japan and Argentina.

"Then they were talking about the next steps being the United States, so we thought let's check this out."

Currently, the Super Rugby broadcasting deal ends at the end of 2020, but negotiations around a new deal are likely to take place within the next year.
