Sonny Fai to be honoured at Warriors matches

Missing New Zealand Warriors forward Sonny Fai will be remembered at each of the club's first two National Rugby League trials, the first in Hamilton tonight and the second at North Harbour Stadium on February 22.

The 20-year-old disappeared and is presumed drowned after saving his brother and four of his cousins at Auckland's Bethells Beach on January 4.

Players from the Warriors will pay their respects to Fai and his family tonight by wearing black armbands at Waikato Stadium.

In the curtain-raiser, players in the Warriors youth team will do the same against a Waikato selection.

Fai represented both the senior and youth Warriors teams last year.

The players will again wear armbands at Albany 10 days later when the NRL squad takes on North Queensland and the youth side meets the Auckland Vulcans.

There will also be a minute's silence at both stadiums before the NRL matches.

Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah said the club was working with Fai's family to honour him during the NRL season.

"We'll announce more about what we're planning to do closer to the season starting," he said.
