League: Warriors sign young Penrith halfback Adam Keighran

The Warriors have signed a highly rated young halfback from Penrith.

Adam Keighran will join the club for pre-season training next month, after inking a two year deal with the Auckland club.

His arrival could be interpreted as a replacement for Mason Lino, who joined the Knights last month after seven years at Mt Smart.

However, the 21-year-old Keighran is versatile. He played most of his junior football in the halves, but spent almost all of last season at centre.

He was also named in the 2018 Intrust Super Premiership NSW team of the year in the centres.

The left-footed Keighran is also a handy goal kicker. He came up through the grades with the Bulldogs before moving to Penrith.

It's understood the Warriors have been tracking his progress for some time.

He's yet to play first grade, and wouldn't be expected to see much NRL action next season, unless there is a series of injuries at the club.

Aside from Shaun Johnson and Blake Green, Peta Hiku and Chanel Harris-Tevita would be seen as the back-up options in the halves.

But he will certainly add to the utility stocks at the club, alongside the likes of Karl Lawton and Nathaniel Roache, as a player who can cover several positions.
