Meagher, understood to be the highest-paid Australian actor, is a big fan of both oval ball codes and chatted briefly to Johnson about next year's NRL Auckland Nines tournament.
"I've seen him play many times and he is absolutely phenomenal," said Meagher.
"I mean, how do you tackle that? He just keeps moving in different directions and very quickly."
The 72-year-old played rugby for Queensland at senior level in the late 1960s as a first five-eighth, and even turned out against a touring French side in Brisbane that saw the Reds succumb 37-3.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert, which last toured to Auckland in 2008, opens at the Civic Theatre on October 14.
