Salford could now take the view what Locke was doing did not portray the club in the best of images while overseas.
It's been a trying start to 2015 for Locke who last week had a proposed move to Scottish rugby rejected.
Locke went as far as agreeing personal terms and the Scottish Rugby Union also settled the terms of release from his three-year contract with Super League club Salford, but a senior spokesman for the SRU confirmed last week the move was off.
The SRU was given permission by Salford owner Marwan Koukash to talk to the 25-year-old and the Kiwi international met officials two weeks ago to discuss a switch of codes.
Locke, who was asked to submit proof of his Scottish heritage, is now expected to remain with the Red Devils but Koukash has warned that he cannot expect to get straight back in the team.
The newspaper today wrote a lengthy editorial on Locke's precarious situation.
"Salford Red Devils need Kevin Locke and Kevin Locke definitely needs the Salford Red Devils right now. It is a two-way thing and it has to work in tandem," the paper's league writer Neil Barker wrote.
"He has a commitment to Salford and is duty-bound to fulfil it.
"No one will give two hoots if Salford win a trophy and he is seen dancing on the town hall steps in his birthday suit.
"What Locke must realise though is that a lot of hard graft needs doing by the likes of him before Salford have their own glory march through the local streets.
"Maybe it's time for player and club to kiss and make up."
