Sky TV has had a difficult time of late and it has another situation looming as it tries to secure the rights for the forthcoming Rugby League World Cup. The network is still locked in talks about broadcasting live games from the tournament in Britain and France but there's a danger New Zealand fans won't see the Kiwis live. Sky has to weigh up whether to secure the rights, which it believes are unrealistically priced, or face flak from an increasingly critical public dissatisfied with Sky's service. Maori TV is said to be in the market to broadcast Kiwis games delayed.
4. Peyroux to pay up
Dominique Peyroux has been making an impression in recent weeks with his solid performances coming off the bench for the Warriors, but he made an impression of a different kind after training on Thursday. The utility backed into the parked car of a Sunday Star-Times scribe, damaging both cars to the amusement of his teammates. No damage, other than to Peyroux's pride.
5. Streaks ahead
Security at All Black tests will need to be on alert after Origin streaker Wati Holmwood indicated he was interested in switching codes. Holmwood has twice been convicted for streaking at league games - most recently in the State of Origin decider in Sydney - but reportedly told a New Zealand reporter ahead of his court appearance this week that "I'd like to do an All Blacks test one day". He was sporting a beard at court this week, which might make it harder for people to recognise him. Security should look out for a large, naked male.
6. Game of the week
There are a number of tantalising contests this weekend with many teams having plenty to play for but few can rival Melbourne's game against the Rabbitohs tonight. The Rabbitohs have set the pace for most of the season but two defeats in the past three weeks (Dragons and Cowboys) as well as injuries to Greg Inglis and John Sutton have many wondering if their quest for a first title in 42 years might be on the skids. The Storm, on the other hand, have their swagger back after their 64-point hiding of the Raiders in Canberra last weekend and they will be difficult to stop on home soil.
