The Kiwis are set to announce the addition of Kelvin Wright to their coaching staff ahead of the Four Nations to fill the role of analyst under head coach Stephen Kearney and assistant David Kidwell.
Wright is currently serving as Stacey Jones' assistant coach with the Warriors Under-20s team and also with the Junior Kiwis.
It's understood the NZRL are looking to develop pathways to take up-and-coming coaches through to the top level and Wright is seen as having plenty of potential.
Taumalolo making mark
Jason Taumalolo's outstanding form for North Queensland could see him earn his first Kiwis test jersey in the Four Nations tournament at the end of the year.
Still just 21-years-old, the 112kg, 191cm back-rower is displaying all the skills, pace, step and brawn that saw him tagged as "the next SBW", in some devastating recent performances for the Cows.
After turning out for Tonga in the 2013 World Cup, he must now be putting himself in the frame for New Zealand selection.
Kasiano staying at Belmore
Rumours Sam Kasiano is looking to move on from the Bulldogs are way off the mark, according to his manager Mario Tartak.
The big man is contracted to Canterbury through until the end of 2015 and although he has fielded nibbles from other clubs, Tartak insists he is going nowhere.
Widnes fans run wild
Ugly scenes marred Castleford's Challenge Cup semifinal win over Widnes with around 80 disgruntled Vikings fans invading the field post-match.
The angry mob attempted to bait Castleford supporters at the opposite end of the park and two of the Tigers' mascots were attacked, with one having the head ripped off his costume, before police and stewards worked to restore order.
Castleford are now looking forward to their first Cup final since 1992 and will face off against Leeds Rhinos at Wembley on August 23.
Broncos await findings
It will be interesting to see what sanctions are handed out to the Brisbane Broncos if the NRL's investigation into a possible $450,000 salary cap breach over three years turns out to be on the money.
Depending on how soon the NRL are able to determine their findings and whether or not the Broncos finish in the top eight, the club could face penalties that affect their 2015 season, similar to the way the Warriors lost four competition points in 2006.
Prince pens kids books
Former Tigers and Cowboys great Scott Prince - who these days can be seen and heard on the sidelines for Fox Sport in Australia - has recently published his second footy-themed kids book, titled Deadly D and Justice Jones: Making the Team.
The short-chapter book series are aimed at "tween" age boys who are not big on reading.
One of the main characters (Justice Jones) is a Kiwi who loves the Warriors, with the first book detailing his Maori heritage and love of league.
