4 End of the line
One of the game's good guys, Petero Civoniceva, will retire from all league at the end of the World Cup. The 37-year-old prop, who played 45 times for Australia and 33 for Queensland, will captain Fiji against the Kangaroos at Wembley on Saturday morning but isn't tempted to hang on for another year - Fiji will play in next year's Four Nations - for fear of upsetting someone close to him. "What's the saying?" he asked. "Happy wife, happy life. I will run with that."

New Zealand winger Manu Vatuvei, though, can't do without his kava even though he is under the impression consumption is not allowed in the UK. "I heard it's not allowed in England," he said with his trademark big smile. "But I smuggled a little in."
