A lucky Australian-based punter has won big after placing $10 on an outrageous multi-bet that contained ten fixtures from both the NRL and the AFL.
That $10 soon swelled up to $23,709 (NZ$25,172) after a series of cross-code results went in favour of the winning multi.
The Sportsbet punter's win
comes in the wake of what is being described as a cross-code war in Australia, with the AFL and NRL clashing over the $700 million (NZ$743.2 million) refurbishment of Sydney's ANZ Stadium on Sunday.
Some fortuitous results were needed in order for the bet to come off, with upset wins by the Wests Tigers and Newcastle Knights over the Gold Coast TItans and St George-Illawarra Dragons in the NRL playing a pivotal role in the outcome of the multi.
"There were some surprise results in both codes over the weekend and this punter somehow managed to pick all of them in the one multi," sportsbet.com.au's Christian Jantzen told Fox Sports of the bet that featured seven NRL games and three AFL head-to-head predictions.
