Shaun Johnson is on the search for a grassroots footy team that he can help out on his day off this weekend.

The Warriors star made the call out on Facebook saying: "Is there anyone out there willing to have me come out and run the Water for your footy team this Saturday?"

"I've got the day off and keen to do something so why not this! If you'd like me to then just comment below on why I should choose your team..Auckland based teams only but can be any grade at any time.. Let's see how we go?"

Johnson says he will announce the winning team later this week, with more than 1,500 people commenting on the Facebook post.

"Morning fam! Awesome seeing pics of all the teams, didn't expect there to be so many keen to have me," the NRL star told his Facebook followers.

"This water boys getting excited! I'm keeping an eye on them all and will choose a winner on Thursday."
