Warriors prop Jacob Lillyman saw the funny side when reflecting on his role in Chad Townsend's match-winning try against the Broncos, a play that began when he shifted the ball to fellow forward Sebastine Ikahihifo to send Ngani Laumape away downfield. "I'll take the try assist when they're handing them out, but I don't think I'm in any danger of wearing the six any time soon," Lillyman deadpanned.
Maori team to play
New Zealand Maori will play a match against a Murri Queensland Indigenous line-up in Brisbane on Saturday, October 18. The Maori side could include some NRL players and may enable Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney to give some game time to players not involved in the finals before the Four Nations tournament.
Viva Las Vegas
NSW Origin officials are said to be considering rewarding their victorious Blues team with an end-of-year trip to Las Vegas. The highly questionable idea, which started as a throw-away remark from Matty Johns on his Fox Sports show a few weeks ago, has apparently gained momentum since the Blues players started the "Vegas!" chant in the sheds after their series win in game two. Sounds like a fantastic idea. What could possibly go wrong?
Hayne on the trot
Still on the State of Origin the Queensland team were on the field for several minutes waiting for NSW before the game eventually started. It's believed the Blues were waiting on their star fullback Jarryd Hayne, who battled a stomach virus before the game and was apparently occupied with a last-minute toilet stop.
Taumata flying with Jets
Former NRL bad boy Arana Taumata is now plying his trade with the Newtown Jets in the NSW Cup and hoping for another shot at the big time. Jets officials had nothing but positive things to say about the 25-year-old's attitude and application to training and said he was performing well.
Rocky road for Reynolds
Hard to believe the Rabbitohs would be keen to offload halfback Adam Reynolds, but that's the mail out of Sydney over the past week. Reynolds has reportedly received assurances from Souths coach Michael Maguire that he will remain at Redfern at least until the end of next year, when his contract expires. With young gun Luke Keary waiting in the wings, and skipper John Sutton and Cody Walker signed for next season, the Rabbitohs will have plenty of options in the halves.
