NRL: Under fire chairman staying on another year

ARL commission chairman John Grant will keep his job for another year with an announcement to made on Tuesday, according to a report.

News Corp Australia reported on Saturday that NRL clubs have unanimously voted to retain the ARL leader for now but he will step down in 12 months.

It's believed the clubs will get their $13m funding and have two seats made available on the commission.

This development comes after clubs resumed talks with Grant last Monday.

The report claimed NRL chief Todd Greenberg was the real target of the clubs but constitutionally they could only go after Grant.

The ARLC and clubs were at war after Grant and Greenberg pulled from the table an agreement to fund each franchise at 130 per cent of the salary cap from 2018.

Grant argued the game could no longer afford it with a number of issues taking precedence, including grassroots funding, taking over the NRL's digital arm from Telstra in 2018 and a sinking fund to support struggling clubs.
