"It's not concerning at all because I thought the wheels were in motion to sort out Daly's future and beyond the current contract. As far as I know, it's proceeding ahead.''
Manly chief operating officer David Perry released a statement on Thursday outlining the club's desire to keep the No.7.
"Daly Cherry-Evans has always been a key priority for the club and we are working closely with Daly's manager to ensure his long-term career with the Sea Eagles,'' Perry said.
"Daly has expressed his desire to stay with the club and we are doing everything possible to make it happen.
"We are confident of a positive resolution.''
Cherry-Evans isn't the only Manly star with question marks over his immediate future at the club, with fullback Brett Stewart, prop Darcy Lussick and centre Steve Matai all off contract at season's end, while internationals Tony Williams and Kieran Foran could exercise get-out clauses to test themselves on the open market.
But Toovey said at this stage the club had no plans to lose any players.
"We're trying to make sure we're not,'' he said.
"We're doing our best to make sure players are well compensated here and are happy. That's what we're doing.
"I think all the players want to stay. I haven't spoken to (Cherry-Evans) personally about whether he wants to stay but who would want to leave a great team that we are, and the success that we have?
"I'm imagining that all the players would like to stay.
"We are (confident we can hold onto our stars), we're confident that the people in the office and behind the scenes are really working hard to make sure that everyone has a reasonable outcome.
"That's what we're working towards and I'm pretty confident we'll get there too.''
