NRL: Inglis has Storm on finals edge

Melbourne captain Cameron Smith is confident coach Craig Bellamy can come up with a plan to stop Greg Inglis despite marvelling at the South Sydney fullback's "remarkable" run of form.

Inglis looms as the man the Storm must contain when they host the Rabbitohs in Saturday night's NRL qualifying final.

The former Storm star has lifted his game to new heights since being switched to the No.1 jumper early in the year - his brilliant series of displays crucial to Souths' return to the play-offs.

"It's quite remarkable really, particularly the things that he's done the last couple of weeks when he came back from his little break on the sideline," said Smith, referring to a three-match suspension for an illegal shoulder charge.

"He's attacking the football, in that game against Parramatta (in round 25) they rolled a couple of grubbers in on the line where there were blokes coming down on him and putting a lot of pressure on.

"He just came in with his head over the football, picked it up, bumped off three or four blokes, ran 20m, and got a quick play the ball.

"He's hard to put into words really, the type of footballer he is, but I'm sure (Bellamy) will have plenty of clips on him for us to look at this week."

The winner of Inglis's battle with Storm No.1 Billy Slater could well decide the clash, with both capable of breaking games wide open.

Slater said he was confident the Storm had overcome the wobbles of their five-match losing streak, which has been followed by five straight wins heading into the finals.

"We've played some really good football at times and we've played some patchy football," Slater said.

"We just needed to get back to concentrating on the little things that we did to get us in the position when we were winning games.

"When you're concentrating on the big picture you lose focus of the processes of the little picture - we're playing our best football when we're preparing well.

"We know we're in a good position, we just have to take advantage of all the hard work that got us in this position."
