Mathew Johns: Kieran Foran could produce NRL title for Warriors

Kieran Foran staying at the Warriors could produce an NRL title for the Auckland club, according to prominent rugby league commentator Mathew Johns.

Speaking on today's Triple M breakfast show in Sydney, Johns and former fellow New South Wales representative Mark Geyer talked up halfback Foran's importance to the Warriors.

Foran's future beyond this season has been subject to fierce conjecture, but Johns' words give backing to a Herald exclusive story last week which suggested the tide was turning in Foran's future plans.

"Word is starting to come through that Kieran Foran is actually considering staying in New Zealand and not joining the Bulldogs," Johns said of the Sydney club most firmly chasing the classy Kiwis' signature for next year.

Geyer said while he would feel for the Bulldogs, if they miss their man but "for his own personal sake I think where he is, is best for him".

Foran's children live in Sydney and it had been assumed he would head back to Sydney at the end of this season. However, there are suggestions Foran is happy at the Warriors and may be rethinking plans to return across the Tasman.

"I don't know that situation [Foran's children]. I'm talking purely about rugby league," hardman Geyer said.

"It's like he never stopped playing rugby league [for] that 12 months.

"He's an unbelievable player and being over in New Zealand is where he should be if he wants to go better and better."

Foran missed last season with injuries and has worked his way back from off field issues.

"I don't want to talk about the personal side," Johns said.

''From a football point of view, if he was to sign a three-year contract with the Warriors I believe in that three years they'll win a competition.

"He makes that much of a difference and I reckon [the Warriors] are just one high-class forward away from winning the competition."
