Titans deny seeking to offload Taylor on market; Cowboys remain wary of Warriors.

Gold Coast have moved to quash speculation giant former test and Origin back-rower Dave "Coal Train" Taylor has been shopped around to other NRL clubs.

Taylor reportedly sought assurances he is still wanted by the club amid concerns they may be looking to offload him following a string of inconsistent performances since his big-money move from South Sydney before last season.

In January the Titans released centre Jamal Idris from the final two years of his contract and there was talk they might do likewise with Taylor, who is contracted to the club until the end of 2016 on a deal worth around $400,000 a year.

But Gold Coast chief executive Graham Annesley said in a statement yesterday suggestions Taylor could be headed elsewhere were baseless.

"We want to assure fans that Dave Taylor is part of our ongoing plans and he definitely wants to remain with the Titans and play finals football for us," Annesley said. "He is a key member of a team."

Taylor was dropped to the Queensland Cup last year by Titans coach John Cartwright and admitted last week his fitness needed to improve.

The 25-year-old former Kangaroos forward said he wanted to stay with the Titans.

"I don't know where this has come from but I am committed to doing my absolute best for the Titans and I am content that the club is committed to me," Taylor said in the statement. "I hope this is the end of it. I just want to play good footy."

North Queensland coach Paul Green has denied a suggestion there could be a hangover effect at the Cowboys following their pre-season Nines competition success.

The Cowboys won their first NRL title with victory in the weekend-long tournament in Auckland last month, heightening expectations ahead of Green's first campaign at the helm in Townsville.

A round-one win over Canberra got the Cowboys' campaign off to a good start but last weekend's heartbreaking loss to rivals Brisbane prompted the question whether Green's men were struggling in the wake of their pre-season win.

"The Nines have been forgotten about," Green said.

"We're in the regular season and winning the Nines didn't put us on two points ahead of everyone else before the comp starts. We're into the week-in, week-out grind of the NRL now."

The Cowboys face a Warriors outfit this weekend yet to win following their opening two matches of the season.

Green said while the Warriors have been disappointing in their two performances this season, he's far from taking them lightly.

"I'm sure they'd be disappointed with both their performances so far," he said.

"We'll be coming up against a desperate team and I'm sure [Warriors coach] Matty Elliott will have them fired up, prepared well and ready to go."
