League: Shaun Johnson catches the attention of New York club eyeing Super League bid

Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson has drawn the attention of the New York rugby league club aiming to be a part of the English Super League in 2020.

Johnson, contracted to the Warriors until the end of 2019, was the latest star NRL player to support the bid of the New York club.

Last year, NRL stars Josh Morris, Paul Gallen and Sam Burgess all expressed an interest publicly in playing in New York.

Johnson's manager Peter Brown told NRL.com it wasn't surprising to see Johnson supporting the bid.

"Shaun thinks outside the square and is engaged in what is happening around the world and he would be genuine about it," Brown told NRL.com.

"Shaun does not one to box himself in and likes to explore things. He loves the fact that there are opportunities out there."

The team's founder Ricky Wilby told NRL.com he had been approached by a lot of "big name coaches" wanting to be a part of the club, who had been promised $52 million in funding over the next three years by investors.

Wilby said he had been contacted by players and agents wanting to get involved, too, but appointing a head coach was the first point of business.
