The Anzac test is heading back to New Zealand for the first time since 1998, which also happens to be the last time the Kiwis won the annual rugby league fixture against Australia.
This year's edition will be played at Eden Park on April 20, improving the Kiwis' odds oftasting victory after losing the last 10 Anzac tests across the Tasman.
New Zealand Rugby League chief executive Jim Doyle said the venue would provide a fantastic atmosphere for the one-off test.
"[Eden Park] is now an excellent facility and we want the Kiwis to be playing on the biggest and best stage we have. We're expecting a great crowd to come along and support the Kiwis."
The chances of that would appear to be quite high, considering more than 44,000 punters showed up the last time the Kiwis and Kangaroos clashed at Eden Park in the 2010 four nations final. That was the second largest New Zealand league crowd ever, behind the 47,363 that watched the 1988 World Cup final, also at Eden Park.
The last time New Zealand hosted the Anzac test was in 1998 when the Kiwis won 22-16 at North Harbour Stadium. Current Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney missed that game through suspension, while Rugby World Cup-winning All Black Brad Thorn was on the losing side.
In a move welcomed by NZRL, players from both teams will benefit from this year's test being played as a stand-alone fixture, with no NRL games scheduled that weekend.
