Former Kiwis and Warriors player Kevin Locke has dismissed allegations he was dropped by his UK Super League side because he was one of three players who stole their head coach's car.
Locke was one of three Wakefield Wildcats players dropped for this weekend's Super League Qualifiers match with Halifaxfollowing a club investigation.
In an interview on Australian radio station Triple M yesterday, broadcaster Dan Ginnane alleged Locke, scrum-half Tim Smith and centre Reece Lyne stole Wakefield head coach Brian Smith's car before crashing it into a wall.
Smith was charged by police with failing to provide a sample for analysis and driving without due care and attention. He was bailed to appear in court later this month.
Ginnane alleged Locke and Lyne were with Smith in the car. Neither are facing police action.
Today Locke said the allegations he had been involved in stealing his coach's car was untrue.
"Yes I was involved in an incident, as a back seat passenger. Yes I was questioned as a witness by police at the scene, breathalysed with a zero alcohol reading and let go. And the car in question was my car! I can't give any more information on Tim as he was the driver and that is a police and club matter."
In a statement released over the weekend, Wakefield said a "full investigation" had been launched and the club was co-operating fully with police and league's governing body in the UK.
