David Fusitu'a injured at Tonga training ahead of Rugby League World Cup semifinal

Tonga have concerns ahead of Saturday's Rugby League World Cup semi-final against England with in-form wing David Fusitu'a suffering an ankle injury at training today.

The 23-year-old Warriors utility received treatment from team staff and had his left ankle strapped before he eventually limped off to ice his leg before the end of the session at Mt Smart Stadium.

Fusitu'a has been in outstanding form on the right flank outside former Warriors centre Konrad Hurrell, scoring a hat trick in Tonga's upset pool win over the Kiwis and crossing for a double in Saturday's narrow victory over Lebanon in Christchurch.

Tonga assistant coach David Furner downplayed the severity of the injury and expects Fusitu'a will be fit to play but confirmed former Kiwis and Warriors icon Manu Vatuvei would come into calculations if a replacement is required.

"He just had a slight roll there but he's fine," said Furner.

"We were towards the end of the session there so there was no point (continuing).
"There a couple of players there still with bumps and bruises so they go a bit of a rest as well. They got through what they needed to and there's no concerns whatsoever.

"I think he's right to go. If something was happening there we've certainly got players there to take the spot and Manu would be in consideration."

Tonga and England will square off at Mt Smart Stadium at 6pm Saturday with the winner advancing to next Saturday's World Cup final in Brisbane.
