The Cut prepared for Tauranga tomorrow with an impressive final gallop at Matamata yesterday.

Galloping on a firm sand with raceday rider Cameron Lammas in the saddle, The Cut left 1200 behind in a smart 1:18.2, the final 600 in 37.4. The Cut has yet to run a bad race
and looks well placed to clear maidens over 1600m tomorrow.

Bellevue Lass turned in another good workout when she strode over 1200m in 1:20.4, the last 600 in 39. She is very well for her assignment.

Waotu Sands hit out well over 1000m in 1:4.8. Fog prevented a sectional split. Zedcar could also be timed only over 1200m, which took 1:23.3 and Melanie and Formula One clocked 1:21.2.

Rhythm Method was untroubled to cover 1200m in 1:22.8, the 600 in 39.6. Veil ran in from the 600m in 39.8 and in a similar task stablemate Opiki clocked 41.8.

Goldsinga strode over 1200m in 1:21, quickening for a final section in 37.4. A Beautiful Day and Sir Peter were paired over a solid 1200m in 1:18.3, the 600 in 37.4.

Viaggio cut out 1200m in 1:22.9 and the last 600 in a smart 36.8. Sir Sintillate, who makes his debut in the 3-year-old sprint at Tauranga, was not extended over 1000m in 1:7.8. Our Phantom Lady covered the same distance in 1:7.3, with the 600 in 41.2.

Proof covered 1200m in 1:25, the 600m in 41.2. Stik To The Basics took 1:24.2 for 1200m, Rely On Me clocked 1:20.4, Biddee 1:23.6 and 40.6, Mystic Jade 1:20.8 and 40.2, and Temple Hills 1:26.5 and 41.8. Imperial Warrior worked over ground, recording 1:22.8 for the last 1200m and 41.5 for the 600m. Genghis took 1:27 for 1200m, the last 600 in 40.8, Prize Dream 1:20 and 38.2, and Tropics 1:28.4 and 43.2. Kiwifruit Cup topweight King Keitel was not asked for much in his final serious hitout, striding home over the final stages of his work on the all-weather track. He has trained on well from his last start win.

On the same track Daktari put plenty of dash into his work with 1200m in 1:24.5 and the final 600m in 37.8.

Balinova drew attention to her chances at Tauranga tomorrow with a smart final trial at Takanini.

Working 3m out on a soft No 2 grass, the Ritchie-trained mare finished 1000m in 1:3.9, the final 600 in 37.5.

Two-year-old Johnnie Yetton sprinted 600m in 39.2. He showed an ability in heavy ground when third last time at Ellerslie.

Tantalic worked in his best style to run the last 1200m of 1600 in 1:19 and 600 in 39. He has a good record at Tauranga.

Wise Man's Step showed he had taken no harm from his race at Ellerslie last week by sprinting 800m in 52, the last 600 in 38.2. Quetzalcotl completed 1200m in 1:21.6, the last 600 in 39.2, a tidy effort for a maiden.

Grani covered 1000m in 1:5.4, the last 600 in 38.9. Vamperalla was full of running after 600m in 38.6.

Rue Jolie worked nicely through 1200m in 1:22.5, the last 600 in 39.3. She steps up in class tomorrow but is a much-improved mare.

In-form Danz Star and Joseph were paired in a sound gallop at Cambridge.

Working on the outside of a soft No 1 grass, Danz Star and Joseph kept up a strong gallop over 1000m in 1.4, the 600 in 38.8.

Cheeky Devil was comfortable through 1000m in 1.9, the last 600 in 41. Grace worked in similar style in 1.9.1 and 39.1. Power Fillee clocked 40.6 from the 600m.

I'm Insatiable matched strides with Blood Whitelaw over the last 600m of work in 40.6. Flux Capacitor and Leningrad Cowboy went 1000m in 1.14, sprinting from the 600 in 39.4.

Slumber ran 1000m in 1.7.1, quickening nicely from the 600 in 38.9. Paula Maroof clocked 40.7 and Gold Memba 39.6. Tattinger ran the final 600m of 1000 in 39.1, the full distance requiring 1.11.

Last-start winner Leigh Valley looked well although restricted to quiet work at Te Awamutu.

On a slow sand, Leigh Valley went easily through 1000m in 1.8.7, the 600 in 41.

Favourite Trick and Needles took 1.10 for 1000m, the 600 in 41.7.
