Former Kiwi trainer Chris Waller's champion mare Winx showed why she is rated the world's best with her 25th consecutive win to equal Black Caviar and 18th at Group One level in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick yesterday.
Winx was ridden cold by Hugh Bowman from the outside barrierand made her customary move approaching the home turn.
Bowman took her to the outside and let her loose down the Randwick straight where she accelerated to sweep past Gailo Chop to win by 3 lengths with Happy Clapper running on for third.
Waller, Sydney's premier trainer, then proceeded to train three Group One winners in successive races with Unforgotten justifying her favouritism for the ATC Australian Oaks with an authoritative win in the Group One race.
Beaten by Hiyaam in the Vinery Stakes over 2000m two weeks ago, Unforgotten reversed that result in the premier staying race for three-year-old fillies at Randwick.
Unforgotten reeled in Hiyaam at the 100m before forging clear, leaving the outsider Miss Admiration to fill the minor placing.
And Waller's grand stayer Who Shot Thebarman finally had his day in the sun with a last- stride win in the $2 million Sydney Cup at his fifth attempt to complete a Waller treble.
Who Shot Thebarman finished strongly on the outside to beat Zacada by a nose in the time-honoured 3200m handicap at Randwick.
Who Shot Thebarman had twice finished second in the Sydney Cup, including last year in the rescheduled race.
Along with his Sydney Cup placings, the former New Zealand stayer, and 2014 Auckland Cup winner, has also finished third in one of his three Melbourne Cup appearances and fifth in another.
Dean Holland saved ground on New Zealand stayer Zacada and raced through on the fence to hit the front at the 200m but Who Shot Thebarman got the bob of the head on the line.
