Tauranga hopeful Arlingtonboulevard stood out in training with a brilliant workout at Matamata yesterday.

Working on a good plough, Arlingtonboulevard (Walker) proved too slick for Vaalu (Nattrass) over 1200m in 1:14.8, 1000m in 59.8 and the final 600m in 34.6.

Trainer Mark Walker has his fingers crossed that Arlingtonboulevard gains
a start in the $100,000 Japan-New Zealand International Trophy at Tauranga on Saturday. Her alternative is the Interprovincial Challenge at New Plymouth.

Vaalu will run in the open 1200m at Tauranga.

Captain Kurt (T. Harris) prepared for the three-year-old sprint at Tauranga when partnering Hi Yo Wassup (C. Ormsby) over 1200m in 1:16.8, with the last 1000m taking 1:02.2 and the 600m 35.8. He has thrived since his impressive fresh-up win late last month.

Two more for Tauranga, Temple Hills (Rastrick) and Waitui Bay (Tynan), were paired in a sound workout over 1200m in 1:17.2, the 1000m in 1:02.6 and 600m in 36.2

Maz Quin (Dowling) and Itstheone (Swann) cut out 1000m in 1:02.2, but fog prevented any sectional time.

Our Phantom Lady (McKay) and Bourbon Lady (Allpress) cut out 1000m in 1:03.2, the last 600m in 37.8, while Gomez (Collett) took 1:06.5 and 37.2, Multi Tasker (Gorham) 1:04.8 and 37.5, and Raadisi (Collett) 1:09.7 and 37.5.

Point Guard (Tait) worked away from the 1000m to run that distance in 1:05.2 and the last 600m in 37.6. In his first serious work since winning at Ellerslie, The One (Andrew) strode over 1200m in 1:26.5, the last 600 in 40. He is on target for the Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes on Saturday week.

Another for that race, Habana (P. Ormsby), took 1:07.5 for 1000m and 39.2 for the last 600. Shar Ari (Allpress) ran over the same ground in 1:08.4 and 38.3, while Full Frontal (Davidson) took 1:06.4 and 37.3 and Dontdrinkanddrive (Tetzlaff) 1:05.8 and 39.7.

Crepe de Chine (T. Thornton) was keen to go faster when running 1200m in 1:25.4 and 600m in 41.6. Havascotch (K. McQuade) did god work over 1200m in 1:20.8, the final 600m in 36.9.

Pastis (Collett) ran 1200m in 1:24.6, the 600 in 37.8, Ballymore Lass (Carmine) clocked 1:26 and 39.3, and Anton (C. Ormsby) 1:27.7 and 43.5.

* Cross Lease and Alberton Rose worked pleasingly together at Pukekohe yesterday though fog prevented the timing of most gallops.

Using a fast plough, Cross Lease and Alberton Rose completed 1200m in 1:15.5 in preparation for Tauranga on Saturday.

Waikeepadacash, trainer Richard Yuill's other weekend runner, was also sent 1200m but could not be timed. He looks to have thrived since his last-start win at Ellerslie.

Pay The Believer finished his 1200m in 1:22. Arose hit out nicely over 600m in 38.4.

On the sand, Johnnie Yetton went quietly through 1000m in 1:8.

Ngahiiti looked to be coming to hand well when running 600m in 39.9. She should win in this campaign.

* Santoya, who has improved with recent racing, worked attractively at Cambridge yesterday morning. Galloping on a good plough Santoya (Bransakova) completed 800m in a smart 51.

Some sectionals could not be timed because of early-morning fog. Spectacular Icon (Clarke) worked in from the 1200m in 1:22.3, the final 600m in 39.1.

Ladykin (Whale) left 1600 behind in 1:48. Kaapsise (Gillies) was sent 1200m in 1:23, coming home in 40.6. Sir Edward (Holmes) covered 1000m at three-quarter pace before sprinting the last 600m in 38.6. Myriad (Whitworth) was let off with a three-quarter pace gallop over 1000m.

Congrats (Hofmann) was timed from the 1400m in 1:36.2. Grace (Leahy) and a Grand Lodge colt from the Pike-Leahy stable matched strides over 600m in 39. Denison Rose (Leahy) and a Spinning World filly (German) completed 600m in 39.2.

Kajema (Ropiha) was clocked from the 1400m in 1:35.7, the concluding 600m in 38.9.

Gorgeous George (Peters), a winner at the Waipa trials last week, covered 1400m in 1:29.9, coming home in 49.2.

Daddy Knows Best (Treymane) and Fashionable Lass (Ivil) matched strides over 1200m in 1:22, finishing off in 39.4. Sun Hawke (Crawford) and Spinning Meteor (Satherley) were on terms throughout 1000m in 1:4.8, the last 600m in 38.2.

Working on the sand Jonty da Scoundrel (Clarke) ran 800m in 54. The Old Coot (Seguin) cut out 800m in 51.8 and No Limits (Mathieson) and Waikato Wasp (Hazeldon) worked over 1000m in 1:8, coming home in 38.7.
