A wide barrier is hardly a concern to Gai Waterhouse as she aims to win her first Australian Derby with Laser Hawk at Royal Randwick tomorrow.
"We are not worried about the barrier [13]," Waterhouse told the Sydney Daily Telegraph. "He is a big horse that likes to roll along,it doesn't make a difference to him."
She believes we are yet to see the best of her lightly raced galloper despite him already being a group one winner.
"The 2400m is ideal and exactly what he needs."
Randwick clocker Craig Tompson agreed, claiming that Laser Hawk appears to be peaking for the Australian Derby.
"I don't think they had him screwed down going in to the Rosehill Guineas, he looked as though there was more to come. If he can run the trip then it is hard to imagine he isn't going to be right in the finish."
