Viktor Vegas' connections have confidence in the well-bred 3-year-old's ability to make his mark in the higher grades.
The son of Tavistock was a trial winner in the autumn before he finished fourth, after an interrupted run, at his Ruakaka debut last month.
Viktor Vegas then exceeded his trainers' expectationslast time out at Avondale where he broke his maiden by a widening seven lengths in the hands of Matt Cameron.
"We think a fair bit of him and the way he won the other day was really impressive, it surprised us a bit how he got the job done so well," said Andrew Forsman, who trains in partnership with Murray Baker.
"We would like to maybe give him one more run and then put him out with a view to the spring. We'll see if we can find a reasonable track somewhere."
Forsman has no doubt that the gelding will be more effective on good ground. "He's got quite a good action and Matt said he wouldn't have wanted it any worse than what it was at Avondale."
Viktor Vegas is owned by his breeder Bob Emery, who also raced his half-brother Victor Hugo.
He won seven of his 16 starts for Baker and Forsman before he went amiss.
"He's well-related and knowing the family like we do, he's only going to get better as he matures and strengthens," Forsman said.
Victor Hugo and Viktor Vegas are out of the Australian-bred Dubai Destination mare Purnima and the family of the multiple Group One winner Planet Ruler.
