Pinprick and Chessee drew attention to their weekend prospects when they worked boldly at Matamata yesterday.

Galloping on firm sand, Pinprick (Coleman) and Chessee (Davidson) were paired in a solid hitout over 1200m in 1:21.4, the last 1000m in 1:05 and 600m in 36.5.

Pinprick starts in the PQ 1300m event at Awapuni and imported filly Chessee is on the ballot in the maiden sprint at Ruakaka.

Stablemate Steel Tycoon (Coleman) rounded off his preparation for Ruakaka with 1200m in 1:22.4, the last 600m in 38.2, while Egeria (Davidson) followed in 1:22.6 and 37.8.

Sand Dancer (Wenn) and Miss Dux (Hercock) took time honours when they dashed over 1000m in 1:00.5 and 600m in 36.2.

Gomez (Davidson), another Moroney team member entered for Awapuni, was well held over 1200m in 1:27.8, the final 600m in 40.9.

Last start maiden winner One Above Par (Wenn) prepared for the Awapuni 3-year-old event with 1200m in 1:22.6, the last 600m in 38.8.

Wellington Steeplechase candidate Imperial Warrior (P Brosnan) looked fit when covering the last 1200m of his work in 1:22.2 and 600m in 39.8.

Spring Dancer (Walker) was not after time over 1000m in 1:15.4, the last 600m in 44.2.

Olympic Light (Wells) worked in a similar vein, clocking 1:29.5 for 1200m and 45 for the last 600m.

Kyzeel (Walker) returned 1:29.2 and 44.8 and Desert Imp (Coleman) 1:28.8 and 42.3.

Pentane (Tetzlaff) was allowed an easy 1000m in 1:16 and 600m in 45.2.

On the course proper, which was heavy 28m out, Awapuni 2-year-old candidate Mae Ling (Walker) covered 1000m in 1:16.5 and the last 600m in 44.5.

On the all-weather track, Ballymore Lass (Carmine) completed her Ruakaka preparation with a comfortable 1000m in 1:10.7, the final 600m in 39.7.

Bellevue Lass (Dowling) was restricted to 1200m in 1:31.2 and 600m in 44.8. Stablemate Berthon Brook (Ramsay) cut out 1000m in 1:11.8, but no sectional time could be taken due to the very heavy rain.

* Sirius , though not after fast time, looked in good order for tomorrow's Oceanz Seafood Breeders' Stakes at Ruakaka when working on a heavy No 4 grass at Cambridge yesterday.

Sirius (Callaway) worked quietly around to the 600m before coming home in 42.l.

She is in good form for her week-end engagement and should again run prominently.

Shereigns (Cheshire) left l000m behind in l:l3, completing the final 600m in 4l.4.

Texas (Callaway) came to the end of l000m in l:l4.3, the last 600m in 43.2. Raroa Road (Peters) was given a comfortable workout over l000m in l:l9, the final section in 42.4.

Garden Party (Wall), a last-start winner, handled the conditions well when covering l000m in l:l3.6, finishing off in 42.3.

Del Toro (Callaway), who races at Trentham tomorrow, ran 600m in 42.3. Lily Lies (Bridget) and Liberty Lad (Clarke) matched strides over l000m in l:l2.2, finishing off in 4l.l.

Onyx (Wall) was timed from the 600m in 4l.6 and Carrington (Crawford) worked with Mr Dixie (Cornishe) over 600m in 39.7, the quickest of the morning.

* Speedalot galloped impressively on slushy sand at Pukekohe yesterday,

Ridden by trainer Cydne Evans, Speedalot covered the last 1200m of 1600m in 1:18.2, 1000 in 1:3.7 and 600 strongly in 36.6. She should make a good fist of her middle-distance debut at Ruakaka tomorrow

Shezatoerag (Yetton), who is in the big 2-year-old race, sprinted 800m in 50.5, the last 600 in 37.7.

Awapuni candidate The Sportsman (Weston-Arnold) was let off with a round of pacework, quickening a little for the final 600 in 46.

Fuelled (Evans) ran the last 1200m of her 1600m in 1:21.1, 1000 in 1:7.4 and 600m in 40.5.

Last Frisco (Singer) finished her work for the Ken Browne Memorial Hurdles with an easy 800m in 58, the last 600m in 43.3.

Al Vialli (Evans) covered 600m in 38.8. Working 8m out on soft No 1 grass, Cooperator (Evans) completed 1200m in 1:23.9, the last 1000m in 1:8.5 and 600 in 41.2.
