Racing: Moody challenges handicapper

Trainer Peter Moody says there is a chance Black Caviar might start in the Newmarket Handicap, but she would have to be "invited".

Moody said the "Makybe Diva treatment" - meaning an enticing weight - could put the Newmarket on the legendary mare's comeback agenda.

Black Caviar won the Newmarket with 58kg in 2011 and was weighted at 61.5kg last year but did not run.

Hay List, who has emerged as a shock Newmarket entry, won the famous sprint last year with 58.5kg.

Moody was only half joking when he said a Newmarket start for Black Caviar would depend on how desperate Racing Victoria and its handicappers were to have the great mare run at Flemington on March 9.

"They looked after Makybe Diva to get bums on seats, why not the same for my little girl?" Moody told the Herald Sun.

Makybe Diva was regarded by some as thrown in with 58kg when she won her famous third straight Melbourne Cup in 2005.

"Black Caviar will be entered for the Newmarket. We'll then have to wait and see," Moody said yesterday.

"A lot will depend not on what weight she is given but the weight given to those around her."

Newmarket entries are taken today.

Meanwhile, Sydney trainer Con Karakatsanis will today learn his fate regarding five charges he faced over conspiracy.

Victoria's Racing Appeals & Disciplinary Board chairman Judge Russell Lewis heard a day of final submissions from counsel for the stewards and the father/son combination after denying a stewards' request to amend the charge and one from the Karakatsanis camp to have the charges dismissed.

Karakatsanis and his father, Tony, face a combined five charges centring on the allegation they were conspiring to administer raceday treatment to Howmuchdoyouloveme at Flemington on November 9 before he ran in the Yellowglen Stakes.
